Since 1984, HAMP mediators have assisted with the resolutions of disputes involving:
* Neighbors or acquaintances
* Friends, family or roommates
* Classmates
* Landlords and tenants
* Merchants and consumers
* Minor criminal matters
* Restitution for property damage or medical bills

Mediation is:
* Quick: Most disputes are resolved in asingle session lasting about two hours.
* Voluntary: Experience shows that mediation works best when all parties participate willingly.
* Confidential: Only the people involved are present, and what is said is held in confidence.
* Flexible: The option of taking a dispute to court remains open if a settlement is not reached or if the agreement is not honored.
* Effective: Often, all that's needed is a quiet, neutral place for everyone to meet and come up with a solution that works for them.
