Objective of Assessment

Assess reader's ability on three comprehension strands:

A. Forming an Initial Understanding.

B. Developing an Interpretation

C. Demonstrating a Critical Stance

To measure how well students can understand the surface meaning of what they read. DRP tests measure the process of reading rather than the products of reading such as main idea and author's purpose.
Student Task


Demonstrate understanding of the main and supporting information in the general content of the text.

Interpret text by connecting it to outside knowledge (personal experiences, text structure, author's purpose)

Use information in text to predict; judge text quality and themes; analyze author's craft.


Use vocabulary knowledge and, contextual syntactic and semantic clues to figure out meaning of text. Choose correct words to fill blanks in Cloze passages.
