[Rosanne Shea's Commentary]

Artist and educator Rosanne Shea, a Connecticut native, has been creating images since the age of four, and continues to work and exhibit here and around the country. A faculty member at Holy Cross High School and Naugatuck Valley Community Technical College, she has worked in the realist tradition since childhood, and has expanded recently to include surrealist and expressive oil paintings and collages. With a BFA in photography from the University of Connecticut, and an MFA in visual arts from Vermont College, Rosanne has taught 2 and 3 dimensional design, painting, drawing , relief printmaking, Native American beadwork, batik, stained glass, and photography to aspiring artists ranging in age from 5 to 75.

"I've done numerous commission portraits and realist works that include still life, landscape and human figure. In more recent years my work has grown in include images that allude to the dream world, many painted on the round format, or tondo, and embellished with cryptic inscriptions and molded forms. My still life paintings of late contain objects and items loaded with symbolic meaning, much influenced by my studies of Jungian dream interpretation and archetypal imagery. Photography is a love of mine that has inspired much of my painting, and continues to be a favorite medium, especially when used to capture the relationship of the figure with nature. My still life paintings are characterized by rich colors, textures and details, juxtaposing sometimes curious or quirky objects that reveal a bit of my personal history. Landscapes, particularly works done in the impressionistic style are among my favorites to paint."
