[Claire R. Stamatien]

Services: "Dancing Ink" poetry workshops for groups of children, 4th-9th grades.

I write about subjects that move me deeply: Lebanon's war, relationships that reach across races and cultures, issues of sociopolitical concern to women. With my work, I want to convey vivid and candid images of our shared humanity.

Poetry has always invited me into lives I would not otherwise know.

The Israeli poet Yehuda Amichai claims that poetry is prayer. Though most of my work is created in a state of consciousness which is as intimate as prayer, I invite others, at my readings and in my workshops, to accompany me on brief journeys into unknown lives.
