KHA was founded in 1982 by Theanvy Kuoch a survivor of the Cambodian holocaust
and refugee and three American nurses who worked in refugee camps in Thailand.

About Key Staff Members

Theanvy Kuoch, M.A. received an undergraduate degree in Cambodian in Khmer language.
Worked with the German Medical Team in Khao-I-Dang and in the MCH in Phanatnikoum.
Completed a Master's degree in Family Therapy in 1984. Studied with Ivan Borzormenyi-Nagy
the founder of the Institute of Contextual Growth. Founded and directed Khmer Health Advocates
since 1982.

Scope:

KHA provided health assessments and mental health services in the form of individual, family,
group and massage therapies for survivors of torture and concentration camp syndromes.
Direct service is provide for Khmer speaking peoples from Connecticut and Western, Mass.
On a national level, KHA develops and distributes health education materials usually in the
form of video, audio or interactive multimedia.

Status:

KHA is a non-profit organization with 501(c)3 status. It is a Cambodian Mutual Assistance
Association and over one half of the governing board is Cambodian.
