The family shelter is a 27 bed facility that offers temporary housing and works with clients to help them learn the skills necessary to move into permanent housing. It is a shelter for families who have exhausted all of their own resources and are homeless. Marshall House is the only Hartford shelter that keeps families intact, regardless of the ages of children. Families stay in semi-private rooms. The shelter works to assess each family situation as unique. Single women are accepted when other area shelter are full.
The Salvation Army Marshall House has a full staff of professionals who are dedicated to a compassionate, teamwork model that empowers clients to meet their own physical, social, spiritual, and psychological needs.

WHAT WE OFFER:


-Health screening, a pediatric clinic, and support services.
-Case work and advocacy services
- Short-term, goal-directed counseling
- Life-skills education in such areas as AIDS, health and nutrition, budgeting apartment hunting, parenting, and addiction and substance abuse prevention
- Structured recreational groups for children
- Empowerment groups for adults.
