YOUTH PROGRAM


The Salvation Army Marshall House Youth Shelter is a 14 bed facility for teens aged 11 to 17 years. Youth are referred for placement by the Connecticut Department of Children and Families. Abuse, neglect, social or behavioral difficulties are reasons a youth would be placed in the youth shelter.

The Marshall House Youth Program is fully staffed with professional counselors that provide a safe environment, support, guidance, supervision, recreational, educational and social activities on a 24 hour basis.

WHAT THE PROGRAM OFFERS:

-Continue their education, either at local schools or in the shelter's classroom with a qualified teacher.
- Receive appropriate services, such as medical and psychological treatment.
- Earn privileges for maintaining appearance, showing respect, and performing assigned tasks. Youth are evaluated by staff every day.
- Receive training in such areas as life skills, substance Abuse prevention, violence prevention, and AIDS education.
-May choose to participate in worship services and bible study
-Participate in house meetings with youth residents and staff
-Have a voice in determining house rules and recreational activities.
