Each of the projects in the Bi-Annual Plan has a person in Connecticut and another in Paraiba who are responsible for the development of the ideas, specific plans and organization of funding and implementation. Get involved! Drop an email for more details on the plan.

a. Youth Activities: this includes a pen-pal project between elementary schools, and we hope more contacts will develop.

b. Organizational Development: all about improving the structure of the partnership. Membership expansion and planning are key issues here. Planners welcome!

c. Health: among the range of these activities is an effort by Fellows participant Jose de Lima Machado in Paraiba, who has set up a small primary health care center in a favela in Joao Pessoa. Chapter members in both the USA and Brasil have also exchanged trips for research and medical knowledge dealing with education and primary health care for poor people.

d. Women's Issues: Addressing Domestic Violence towards women is a primary focus of this project here in Connecticut. See Lucy's page

e. University Linkages: one of the long-standing successes of the international organization and the local chapter is the establishment of formal agreements between academic institutions of higher learning in both South and North America. The links between the University of Connecticut system and the private and public universities in Paraiba have been very effective for many years. They have resulted in exchanges of students, educational programming, joint research projects, and increased mutual understanding.

The following projects are happening to various degrees:

Art and Culture
Emergency Preparedness
Agriculture
Tourism amd Public Relations
