Organizational Development

Goals:

Strengthen relationship between Paraiba and CT

Improve structure of the planning and implementation of activities.

Objectives:

Formalize specific responsibilities of each committee.

Set common goals and objectives for the Partnership.

Establish "parallel communication" i.e. committee to committee.

Facilitate Rechartering Agreement and Bi-Annual Plan

Increase membership by 30, raise public awareness

Outcomes:

Youth Activities

Goals:

Create exchange of information between young people in CT and PB.

Objective:

Development of pen-pal program for 12 to 14 year olds.

Establishment of e-mail linkage.

Solidification of Illing Middle School pen-pal project.

Expanded internet correspondence between new members.

Art and Culture

Goals:

Celebrate the importance of native folklore in Paraiba.

Teach young people their ancestors' folklore.

Introduce new art forms.

Objective:

Promote folklore activities in JP and the countryside of PB.

Work with schools, organizations, NGOs etc.

Artistic visit.

Outcomes:

Youth skilled in origami paper art form.

Young people appreciate their communities' past.

Artistic exchange from north to south.

Emergency Preparedness

Goals:

Assist the community to respond to natural disasters or accidents that affect the population.

Objective:

Build professional relationships between Paraiba municipal officials and Central CT State University expert.

Outcomes:

Establishment of dialogue in this area.

Womens Issues

Goals:

Improve the lives of women and children in poor communities.

Decrease of domestic violence.

Decrease of teenage sexual exploitation.

Objectives:

Training for anti-violence for police officers

Exchange of training techniques.

Educate women on anti-violence methods.

Educate parents to decrease teenage pregnancy and sexual exploitation.

Outcomes:

Improve police officers level of response to social violence.

Less domestic violence in educated communities.

Less teenage pregnancy.

Decreased number of crimes against women and children.

Tourism and Public Relations

Goals:

Increase level of understanding of culture and history of chapters.

Increase knowledge of Brazil by USA citizens and vice-versa

Give opportunity for business development through increased exposure.

Improve visibility of POA in Paraiba and CT

Objectives:

Arrange tourist exchange between CT/Paraiba.

Exchange information about economic development

Increase membership on local level through advertising, editorials and special events

More people know about USA and Brazil.

Stronger links between CT and Paraiba chapters.

Increased diversity of membership in each chapter.

Health Issues

Goals:

To improve the level of health and standard of living in poor communities.

Objective:

Teach basic hygiene, use of septic systems and sanitation.

Improve knowledge of traditional nutritional systems to improve diet.

Availability of basic physical health examinations.

Exchange of health professionals

Outcomes:

Better standard of living

Decrease of infectious diseases

Citizenship and Human Rights

Goals:

Improve citizenship participation in democracy.

Increase understanding of basic human rights.

Objectives:

Educate prison staff and prisoners about human rights.

Assist people to register for a political party.

Outcome:

Improved awareness of political process.

Citizens' better understanding of their political environment.

University Linkages

Goals:

Improve understanding of academic mutual interests.

Exchange of research and development of scientific technologies.

Objectives:

Reaffirm the agreement of 1985, look at James Houser Foundation contract
